About Me

My name is Mary Nunn and I have been working in secondary and higher education for nearly 20 years. After graduating with my Masters in TESL & Literacy, I became an ESL secondary high school teacher. I continued my education in literacy development by getting my AZ Reading Endorsement to more effectively teach literacy skills to not just ESL students, but to struggling readers as well. In 2012, I became a full-time, tenure track Reading Faculty member at the community college level. For the last decade, I have refined my instructional skills by implementing adult learning theory best practices in my classes; designing course activities based on Universal Design (UDL) principles and accessibility; building open-educational resources; and developing blended, hybrid, and both synchronous and asynchronous courses.

In 2019, I began my second Master's in Organizational Performance & Workplace Learning to make more systemic change within higher education. Because of this program, I have continued exploring process improvement through performance gap analysis to develop onboarding and ongoing trainings, developing instructional job aids, conducting organizational needs analyses, collaborating on programmatic evaluations, and more.

Early in my life, I worked in the service industry for over 15 years. It is this foundational work experience and philosophy in serving others that I have directly transferred into my roles as an educator, instructional designer, and leader in higher education. This philosophy coupled with my passion for learning new technologies, designing for a positive user experience, creating organizational consistency across programs, and challenging archaic learning paradigms, is how I focus my efforts on being truly "student first."
